THIS ISLAND

2021 solo show at Gray's Wharf.

‘I paint with oils onto ply or wooden boards. I draw influence from my natural surroundings and work to create paintings that reflect my perception of our environment.’

This exhibition evolved from an appreciation of our British isles in all its seasons.

‘‘This Island’ was born from a year of most extraordinary circumstances. At the beginning of the first lockdown the opportunity nature granted and the overwhelming sound it made demanded that people take stock. During this time I worked to capture the all encompassing and unique British seasons and their importance in maintaining the health of the flora and fauna that inhabit these isles.’

 ‘Bodmin and Skylark, late Autumn’

Comprises Sycamore and Birch ply. Oil on Sycamore and Birch ply. 2021. Each panel 85cm x 60cm, total width of screen 180cm.

The screens have been a project in the making for over four years. I worked in collaboration with my partner, furniture designer and skilled woodworker Felix McCormack to bring this long awaited project to fruition. We worked together to design two screens for this show, Felix then worked from his workshop at Spargo to make them and I took them on, carefully transporting them to my studio in Penryn to paint the scenes I’d been excited to portray for some time.

‘Early Spring moon upon a quiet hill’
